The Jeep Meridian has recently been unveiled in India as a three-row version of the Compass. It shares its architecture with the latter, along with lots of other bits. That said, Meridian is not just a clone of the compass, but a unique vehicle. There are lots of styling differences, and the luxury factor has been introduced alongside seemingly new models.

Here, we have an on-paper comparison between the Jeep Compass and the soon to be launched Jeep Meridian, to see what happens.

The design of the Jeep Compass maintains a great balance between roughness and sport. It gets a bold headlamp and front grille (with signature seven-slot design), along with a sporty front bumper that gets an empty airdam. The SUV also has a pair of bulbs taillights, along with a well-designed tailgate, false roof rails and dual-tone 18-inch alloy wheels (lower trims get 17-inch wheels).

The Jeep Meridian also has a very handsome design, which is visually different from the Compass. The headlamp and front bumper have been restored, the front grille has got a signature seven-slot design. The 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels are distinct, while the taillights and tailgate also have a unique design.

Thanks to its larger dimensions, the road appearance of the Jeep Meridian will be significantly better than that of the Compass. That said, the two of us need to look side by side to make an accurate comparison, so stay tuned!

Zip Compass vs. Zip Meridian – Interior styling and features

The Jeep Compass has a highly upmarket cabin design with a spacious dashboard, smooth AC vent, a free-standing 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, a chunky multi-function steering wheel and a full-digital 10.25-inch TFT console. There are plenty of soft-touch surfaces around the black-out cabin.

Features on offer include LED Exterior Light, Rain Sensing Wiper, Panoramic Sunroof, Dual-Zone Climate Control, Keyless Entry & Go, Ventilation Front Row Seats, Power-Adjustable Front Row Seats, Auto-Dimming, Auto-Dimming -Folding), wireless smartphone charger, Uconnect5 system (Connected Car Tech), 360-degree camera, etc.

The Jeep Meridian has the same design as the 5-seater siblings in the dashboard, AC vent and steering wheel. However, the color of the cabin is different – black and brown – which seems more premium. Similar to the 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and the 10.25-inch digital instrument console compass.

Meridian’s list of equipment will be similar to that of a compass, including dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, keyless entry and go, 360-degree camera, auto-dimming IRVM, power-adjustable ORVM, ventilated front seats, Technology will be provided here as well.

Jeep Compass vs. Jeep Meridian – engine and transmission

The Jeep Compass has two engine options – a 1.4L turbo-petrol unit and a 2.0L turbo-diesel unit. A 6-speed manual transmission is available in both cases, while the automatic gearbox options include a 7-speed dual-clutch system in the petrol version and a 9-speed torque-converter system in the diesel version. As standard, it comes with the FWD drivetrain, while the AWD option is offered in the diesel version.

The Jeep Meridian will have only one engine option at launch – a 2.0L turbo-diesel mill – the same one that is also available on the Compass. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 9-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox. The SUV will come in FWD format as standard, while the diesel version will get the AWD option. A petrol engine option is expected to be added later.

Zip Compass vs Zip Meridian – Price

Jeep Compass costs Rs. 17.79 lakhs to Rs. 26.34 lakhs for petrol version and Rs. From Rs 19.49 lakh to Rs 29.34 lakh for diesel version (all prices ex-showroom, New Delhi). In the case of the Jeep Meridian, its price will be revealed by May of this year, but we’re sure it will be significantly more expensive than its 5-seater siblings, probably in the same range as the Skoda Kodiak or Toyota Fortuner.
