Japanese car giant Toyota touched a wholesale figure of 17,131 units in India in March 2022, the highest for the brand in almost five years.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor has announced that it has shipped a total of 17,131 vehicles to India in March 2022. This is the manufacturer’s highest sales figure in our market since July 2017. It stands at 15,001 units in the manufacturer’s March 2021 sales, based on a 14.20 percent annual sales growth (YoY).
Also, the manufacturer saw a 58.15 percent YoY increase in 2021-22 FY, achieving sales figures of 123,770 units. For comparison, Toyota sold 78,262 units in the 2020-21 fiscal year. It is noteworthy that since the launch of the rebranded Maruti Suzuki car in the Indian market, there has been a strong increase in sales of the manufacturer.
Toyota currently has two rebranded Maruti cars in its lineup – the Urban Cruiser and the Glanza – based on the Vitara Brezza and Baleno. Maruti Baleno and Toyota Glanza have recently made a big facelift, with an updated design (exterior and interior) and some extra features. Interestingly, there are now a lot of visual differences between the two hatchbacks!
The Toyota Urban Cruiser (and the Maruti Vitara Brezza) are about to undergo a generational change, probably next month. We expect big changes in the exterior and interior design here too with lots of new features. The 1.5L petrol engine is expected to get a more powerful hybrid system, and will be paired with a 5-speed MT or 6-speed AT.
In addition, Toyota Innova Christa and Fortuner also increased sales. Mr. Atul Sood, Associate VP – Sales and Strategic Marketing – TKM, it was to say: “We are seeing a lot of demand from the market and our March wholesale is witnessing the current demand trend.“
He continued, “Top models in the segment like the Innova Christa have definitely been strengthened by clocking around 8000 units in just one month. Fortune and Legend, too, have worked remarkably well, and Legend in particular has created a niche for itself in such a short time. Putting both models together, we have watches around 3000 units“
Other Toyota cars sold in India – Camry and Welfare – are special products, which sell less. Japanese car giant Helix has also launched a pickup truck in India, which is expected to start delivering soon. Booking for this is also expected to resume soon.
