Toyota has already invested Rs 2,000 crore in green mobility and technology for local as well as export activities
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is preparing to launch a host of powerful hybrid vehicles in the domestic market in the next few years, according to a report published on the Internet. Japanese Auto Major is also studying the feasibility of alternative fuels such as CNG, hydrogen-powered vehicles, ethanol, and other known ways to reduce emissions.
The brand has already pumped a hefty amount of money Rs 2,000 crore for green mobility and technology for Indians as well as export activities and new investments will be processed before the upcoming launch. In conversation with ET, Vikram Kirloskar, Vice Chairman, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM)Said “We feel very strongly with 70% coal-based power, powerful hybrids give the wheel the best amount of carbon emissions. We will continue to push the hybrids. “
Aiming to reduce the carbon footprint, he noted that the more renewable energy begins to arrive, the greater the penetration of electric vehicles. He further stated that this creates a strong business case but with the advent of hybridization technology, his brand intends to enter the mass market at some point.
In India, the central government has set a GST tax slab of 28 per cent for small hybrid vehicles and 43 per cent for large vehicles. The only hybrid sedan Toyota currently sells in India is the Camry Hybrid and it received a mid-life update earlier this year. Also, Toyota is expected to launch a mid-sized SUV made in collaboration with Maruti Suzuki in the vicinity of Diwali this CY.
It will be underpinned by the brand’s DNGA platform as the 4.3m long SUV will compete against the likes of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. In the middle of this decade, the partnership with Maruti Suzuki will create a world-class medium-sized SUV based on the 27PL skateboard architecture. Although not confirmed, Toyota may bring its RAV4 hybrid to India considering the popularity of its premium car locally.
The popular Toyota RAV4 has been selling internationally for a long time and speculation surrounding its entry into the market has been going on for a long time. The RAV4 Prime PHEV uses a 2.5-liter engine and electric motor that produces a combined power output of 302 hp, which is delivered on four wheels via the E-Four AWD system. It has a dedicated EV with a range of 75 kilometers.
