Tata Nexon acquired 14,315 units in March 2022, with 8,683 units YoY volume increased by 65 percent

Tata Motors’ Nexon topped the March 2022 SUV sales chart as it sold 14,315 units against 8,683 units in the same period last year, with a huge YoY sales growth of 65 percent – consistent with the brand’s impressive sales last year or more. The range of compact SUVs has been expanded, courtesy of the Kaziranga version.

Its main competitor, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, was the second best-selling SUV in the country last month as 12,439 units were registered with a 10 percent increase over the same period in 2021, compared to 11,274 units. The battle between Nexon and Vitara Brezra will only intensify in the coming months as the heavily updated Brezza launches in June 2022.

Hyundai Creta was the best-selling medium-sized SUV in India last month and was third on the overall SUV chart as 10,532 units were posted in March 2021 with a YoY negative volume growth of 17 per cent as against 12,640 units. Since its debut late last year, the Punch Micro SUV has been gaining consistent volume on the charts, and last month was no exception.

Punch recorded 10,526 units while Hyundai Venue ranked fifth with 9,220 units sold, down 14 percent YoY sales from 10,722 units in March 2021. Kia Celtos racked up 8,415 units in the second half of the table, falling 10 percent YoY to 10,557 units, and finished sixth.

The Kia Sonet compact SUV was able to finish seventh with 6,871 units against 8,498 units in March 2021, a 19 percent drop in YoY sales. It was one of the six sub-four-meter SUVs in the top ten, indicating the segment’s popularity. The Mahindra Scorpio is in eighth place with 6,061 units due to a major upgrade next month.

This is when a YoY volume increase of 160 percent was recorded, compared to the same period in 2021 with 2,331 units. The Mahindra XUV700 was the ninth best-selling SUV in India with 6,040 units while its brother, the XUV300 topped the top ten with 4,140 units.
