The Maruti Suzuki WagonR had the best-selling hatchback in March 2022 than its siblings, the Baleno and the Swift.
In March 2022, Maruti Suzuki WagonR recorded a growing internal number of 24,634 units as it was the best-selling hatchback in the country. Tall-Riding Hatch posted 18,757 units in March 2021, an increase of 31 percent in YoY volume. Baleno was in second place last month with 14,520 units.
It saw a YoY sales decline of 32 percent compared to the same period in 2021 with 21,217 units. The heavily updated Baleno was launched a few weeks ago and is expected to have a big impact on monthly sales soon. Swift was the third best-selling hatch in India last month as 13,623 units were registered.
Compared to the corresponding period of 2021 with 21,714 units, a YoY negative growth of 37 percent was observed. The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios is a direct competitor to the Maruti Suzuki Swift and ranks fourth with 9,687 units sold, down 12 percent YoY volume from 11,020 units in the same period last year.

The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso ranks fifth as 7,870 units were posted in March 2022, up 7,252 units, an increase of 9 percent over the same period last year. In the second half of the table, the Alto entry-level hatchback is in sixth place with sales of 7,621 units where 17,401 units fell 56 percent.
The next-generation Alto is expected to go on sale later this year or early 2023, and has already been seen experimentally on public roads several times. The second-gen Celerio, launched late last year, is in seventh place with 6,442 units sold, up from 4,720 units sold in March 2021, and YoY sales increased by 36 percent.
The Tata Altroz is in eighth place with 4,727 units and 37% YoY drop as against 7,550 units while Hyundai i20 and Maruti Suzuki Ignis are in the top ten with 4,693 and 4,472 units respectively.
