The third generation Toyota Innova Krista has already been confirmed to get a hybrid powertrain in Indonesia; Can sit on modular TNGA platform

A few weeks ago, the first set of spy images of the new generation Toyota Innova Christa from Thailand came on the internet which revealed only a few details. The prototype was recently captured on camera in India which suggests that MPV will be considered for our domestic market as Innova leads the sales chart here every month.

The third-generation Toyota Innova Krista is codenamed B560 internally and is expected to make its worldwide debut later this year or early 2023. Thus, MPV is more likely to reach India by early 2023. With the medium-sized segment often witnessing the arrival of new seven-seater, the Japanese manufacturer would certainly like to further increase its market share with the new model.

Also, Toyota has a medium-sized five-seater SUV that is set to make its debut later this year and is based on the DNGA platform. The 2023 Toyota Innova Christa has several similarities with the design and underpinnings of the Avenger – a global MPV that offers interior rooms like the Innova Christa with a slightly shorter and same wheelbase length.

Innova has been a popular nameplate in India for many years and the second generation launched in early 2016 is based on the success of its predecessor despite being a more premium offer. Spy images point to almost identical front doors and ORVMs as Avanza retails in the Southeast Asian market.

In addition, the C-pillar is similar to the existing Avanza but the D-pillar is steeper and the rear doors are longer with relatively small quarter glass windows. In a similar fashion to Avanza, the new-gen Toyota Innova is expected to switch to modular TNGA, enabling a traditional front-wheel-drive configuration from the IMV platform shared with the Christa Fortuner and Helix.

For performance, the 2023 Toyota Innova Christa was confirmed to be equipped with a hybrid powertrain in Indonesia and we can expect a similar hybrid system for India.
