The first retail 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 convertible went right under the hammer at the Barrett-Jackson auction in West Palm Beach, Florida on Saturday and the final bid came to 1 million.
The sale was for a charitable organization, which continues to bring in bigger bids than usual, and in this case all proceeds will be donated to the General Motors Thargood Marshall College Fund’s teacher quality and retention program.
The winning bidder was none other than Rick Hendrick, chairman and CEO of Hendrik Automotive Group. Hendrick was also a regular bidder at such auctions and the winning bidder during the first 2023 Corvette Z06 Coupe rights charity auction in January. The final bid for that car is 3.6 million. He also raised the rights to the first C8-generation Corvette for $ 3 million in a charity auction in 2020.
2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06
The Z06 starts delivering in the summer, and you won’t be disappointed with either body style. Because the real star of the Z06 is the new V-8, codenamed LT6. The engine, which is based on the design used in the C8.R endurance racer, displays 5.5 liters and generates its maximum power through revs instead of forced induction, the tachometer is capable of flying at high 8,600 rpm. The 670-hp peak power comes in at 8,400 rpm, while the 460 lb-ft peak torque comes in at 6,300 rpm. The only transmission is an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic that only sends power to the rear wheels. Performance numbers not released but expected time of 0-60 mph in 2.6 seconds ৷
Incredibly, the C8 Corvette Generation is expected to create two performance levels above the Z06. A Z06 is expected to be a ZR1 powered by a twin-turbocharged version of the V-8. The other is expected to boost the ZR1’s engine with a hybrid system, a super-rumor. It is quite possible that it will be the last Corvette with the V-8 as electric power could be the norm when the C9 generation arrives later this decade.
The price of the new Z06 has not been announced but it is expected to start at around $ 90,000.
