The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado Police Pursuit Vehicle is coming to catch the bad guys

The Chevrolet already has a large truck for the police market in the Tahoe Police Pursuit Vehicle and now has a large police vehicle. On Wednesday, the company launched the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado Police Pursuit Vehicle to bring a pickup to the Highway Pursuit game.

Based on a crew cab, short bed, four-wheel-drive Silverrado, the PPV comes with GM’s 355-hp 5.3-liter V-8 and 10-speed automatic transmission. No engine upgrades other than a heavy-duty air filter are included.

However, it features other upgrades aimed at durability and mobility. It gets Brambo brakes with 16-inch rotor and 6-piston caliper, Rancho shock from Z71 off-road package, a locking rear differential and an undefined skid plate. Agencies may also opt for a 2-inch suspension lift that increases ground clearance to 11.35 inches and an approach angle of 25.9 degrees – statistics that can help when bad guys try to escape from the sidewalk. It has a 220-amp alternator and two 120-volt outlets for power devices.

It all rides on 20-inch black steel wheels and Goodyear All-Terrain tires. Chevy says the tires’ speed is rated, but all tires are there, and Chevy doesn’t say how fast. The truck comes standard with a towing package to pull up to 9,300 pounds.

As expected for police duty, the truck can be upgraded and Chevy offers a variety of options made by other manufacturers. These include auxiliary cable circuits for the horn and siren, a monitoring mode circuit for an upfitter for installing light control, five upfit switches for general control, and LED or halogen spot lamps. An optional uphill switch bank with three 30-amp and two 20-amp circuits is also provided for emergency equipment.

The front center seat can be removed, and the truck comes with standard headlights and taillight flashers.

Chevy arranges PPVs with keyless entry, a column shifter, and fabric seats, and agencies can choose from power-adjustable front seats and vinyl rear seat furnishings and flooring. The bed measures 5-feet-8 inches, and is available with a sturdy three-fold Toniu cover and GM’s multi-flex tailgate.

Standard safety features include active lane control and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection. Also offered are rear cross traffic alerts with automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitors, and emergency braking.

The 2023 Silverado Police Pursuit Vehicle is coming to the United States and Canada later this summer, and Chevy will also offer a special service vehicle version, although the company did not give details of that model.
