Mercedes-AMG Future electrical technology will emerge soon, Boss said

Following reports that Mercedes’ Vision EQXX concept has covered 1,008 kilometers (626-miles) on a single charge, with 15 percent of its battery power still remaining, the brand’s chief technology officer Marcus Schaefer said the next chapter is to “cover the more sporty aspect” of the story.

Speaking on a technology briefing after the EQXX’s range run, Schaefer outlined that “my team is very excited, they have a lot of ideas for what happens next. If EQXX only covers the efficiency aspect of e-mobility and takes it to the extreme, I would like to cover another aspect, which is the more sporty aspect.

Mercedes has already dived into the pool of hot EVs with its EQS 53 and EQE 53 AMG models. It confirmed last year that pure-electric performance models will be introduced, featuring 43 and 53-brand models.

The key to Mark’s future performance will be the axial flux e-motor he bought from UK firm Yasa which has worked on the technology.

“Our collaboration with Yassar at Oxford in England is a very important part of our sports powertrain and future performance powertrain. We have a variety of e-motor architectures – radial motors for the Mercedes side and super compact and super powerful axial motors for the home performance side in the next few years. The EQXX was a product of a collaboration between Mercedes and its British-based F1 team, and this link could be even stronger for future products in its AMG division.
