The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz will get a 1.5-liter K15C dualjet petrol engine that is expected to produce around 115 PS; Probably a five-speed MT and a six-speed AT
Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) is preparing to launch a new powertrain in its domestic product lineup. The 1.5-liter K15C four-cylinder petrol engine will debut on the soon-to-be-launched Ertiga Facelift and the updated XL6. It is expected to be available in the brand new Brezza, launching in June 2022, the S-Cross and the Ciaz midsize sedan.
The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz made its local debut in 2014 and was initially sold with a 95 PS / 130 Nm 1.4-liter K14B petrol and a 1.3-liter Fiat-source diesel engine developed around 90 PS and 200 Nm. In August 2018, the Ciaz gained a facelift on which the 1.4-liter K14B petrol engine was dropped in favor of the larger 1.5-liter K15B engine.
In March 2019, the DDiS 200 diesel motor was discontinued and an internal four-jet E15A diesel engine was built to generate 95 PS and 225 Nm of power before the ax was struck. Currently, the five-seater is priced at Rs. 8.67 lakhs and Rs.11.66 lakhs (former showroom) and it competes with Hyundai Verna, Honda City and Skoda Slavia.
The 1.5-liter K15B four-cylinder light-hybrid petrol engine produces 104.7 PS of maximum power at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm of peak torque at 4,400 rpm. It will probably be replaced by a 1.5-liter K15C dualjet engine with two injectors per cylinder which gives it better control over fuel injection and thus higher power output and greater efficiency can be achieved.
The powertrain is expected to produce 11 PS at 10 PS more than the K15B. It will be combined with a five-speed manual transmission as standard, while a new six-speed torque converter automatic transmission with pedal shifter may be an option. The gearbox will debut on the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and X6 Facelift which offer higher fuel economy without smart hybrid technology.
The 2022 Maruti Suzuki Ciaz could launch next week and it could get minor cosmetic fixes and internal updates. Following the updated version of the MPV, MSIL will bring the new Brezza and a completely new mid-size SUV later this year when the Jimny Lifestyle off-road is expected to be in the pipeline for 2023.
