Maruti Suzuki will launch a more powerful 1.5-liter petrol engine in the upcoming Ertiga Facelift and XL6 Facelift
Maruti Suzuki plans to launch facelifted versions of the Ertiga and XL6 later this month. The two vehicles were spotted during a road test on Indian roads, and their spy pictures have been circulating on the internet for some time. Now, a new report sheds some light on the mechanical changes in this MPV pair.
The upcoming Ertiga Facelift and XL6 Facelift will be powered by Maruti Suzuki’s new K15C engine, which will replace the K15B engine that currently serves both models. This new 1.5-liter petrol power plant will have dual jet technology, and will have a higher power output – 115 PS – from the current 105 PS generated by the mill.
The 5-speed manual transmission will remain unchanged. However, the 4-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox will probably be omitted in favor of the 6-speed torque-converter unit. A start-stop system will be offered as standard here, but we’re not sure if the SHVS light-hybrid system will be available on updated models.
Also, the Ertiga Facelift and XL6 Facelift will have cosmetic updates. The facelifted Maruti Ertiga will show only slight changes to the exterior design, including a resized front grille and new alloy wheels. In the case of the facelifted Maruti XL6, it will probably get a different front grille, restored headlights, new bumpers and different wheels.
We hope that both MPVs will feature internal changes. The infotainment system will probably get a bigger touchscreen, and the list of security features will be upgraded. The dashboard and steering wheel are also expected to see some design changes.
The Maruti Ertiga is currently priced at Rs. Rs 8.12 lakh to Rs 10.85 lakh, whereas Maruti XL6 starts at Rs. 10.14 lakhs to Rs. 12.02 lakhs (all prices ex-showroom, New Delhi). Their facelift versions will be significantly more expensive than the corresponding current models. In addition to competing with each other, these two MPVs will be direct rivals of Kia Currens.
