Mahindra could electrify its body-on-frame SUVs in the future; The eXUV300 monocoque SUV is expected to launch in early 2023

Mahindra & Mahindra is expected to launch a production version of the eXUV300 concept show at the 2020 Auto Expo in early 2023, and it could be called the XUV400 when the facelifted version of the IC-powered XUV300 is expected to launch in January 2023. In the middle of this calendar year, Mahindra will probably debut the second generation Scorpio.

The Scorpio is based on a new ladder-frame construction and will be built from the group and is expected to be powered by a 2.0-liter petrol and a 2.2-liter diesel engine with a variety of power and torque tuning available in Thar. Also evolving from scratch, the indigenous manufacturer will host three EVI world premieres in their conceptual form based on the Born Electric Vision range.

They will be unveiled in July 2022 and will serve as pioneers of the brand’s future design philosophy and will be underpinned by dedicated burn electric EV architecture. Admitting that all EV launches of its brand will be SUVs, Anish Shah, Managing Director and CEO of Mahindra Group Body-on-frame vehicles can also be electrified.

If this were to happen, we would see the advent of the zero-emission bolero and Scorpio. Both SUVs are extremely popular with rural and urban customers, and thus they can also target the public in their eco-friendly incarnations. It will be interesting to see how Mahindra overcomes the packaging issues that the stair frame chassis brings because it was originally designed to receive ICE powertrains.

Tata Motors currently sells the Nexon EV based on the modified X1 platform and plans to bring a new model based on the Sigma and a dedicated skateboard architecture in the future. The upcoming XUV400 is expected to directly compete with the market leader Nexon EV and can be offered in two battery configurations. The Nexon EV will be updated with a larger 40 kWh battery pack that will soon offer a higher range.

A recent report published on the Internet suggests that Mahindra may launch the eKUV100 by the end of this year. Recent products, such as the second-generation Thar and the all-new XUV700, have been well-received by consumers, with the XUV900 SUV coupe being one of the upcoming Burn electric EVs.
