Ferrari proved once again that getting back to form in the opening round of the 2022 Formula One World Championship was not just a fluke as star driver Charles Leclerc won home for the Pransing Horse at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on Sunday. Albert Park Circuit.
This was the Ferrari driver’s second win of the season and the third time in three races that he has built a podium. Sergio Perez of Red Bull Racing finished second, more than 20 seconds behind, while third-placed George Russell of Mercedes-Benz AMG, more than 25 seconds behind the winner.
It wasn’t a walk in the park for Leclerc who had to hold Red Bull’s Max Verstappen for most of the race. Leclerc started at the pole but was second on the grid and Perez was third. Meanwhile, Ferrari’s Carlos Senz came back in ninth place, fell further behind at the start, and then fell off the tracks in his lap, finishing his race and pulling out the safety car.

Fortunately for the Ferrari, Leclerc was able to keep his cool and hold Vertapen, even after the second safety car period after the 23-year-old crash in Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel’s lap. Also gone out of control, though this time turned into a wall. Worstapen, meanwhile, kept pushing Laklerk, but the current champion in the 39’s lap had to be pulled over by a fire in his car. That means he has now retired from two of the three races this season.
Perez was able to rise to second place after dismissing Verstappen. Russell has already benefited from the safety car period following Vettel’s crash. He made his first stop and eventually climbed to three positions, with Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton stopping the lap earlier. Hamilton appeared in fifth place, and Verstappen later moved to fourth place after his retirement and finished there. McLaren’s Lando Norris was in the top five.
