Ferrari 296 GTB April 19 may be changeable

Ferrari posted a teaser shot of the new 296 GTB Supercar on social media on Wednesday and said a surprise is coming April 19th.

The teaser shows the top of the car’s beltline and rear fender, but the roof is noticeably missing, suggesting that we’re seeing a planned convertible version called the 296 GTS or possibly a 296 Spider.

A prototype for a convertible version of the 296 GTB was recently spotted near Ferrari’s Maranello headquarters and features a retractable hard-top roof similar to that used in other convertible Ferrari.

But in addition to the new roof, the convertible version of the 296 GTB should look like its fixed-roof counterpart. We remind you that the 296 GTB is a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 powered by a plug-in hybrid and an electric motor sandwiched between the engine and an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. A maximum output of 818 hp, or 0-62 mph acceleration in 2.9 seconds and a speed of more than 205 mph is sufficient. A 7.45-kilowatt-hour battery makes a small electrical range possible.

Ferrari is testing a GT3-spec 296 GTB race. It is set to compete from the 2023 Motorsport season.

Stay tuned for a Ferrari surprise next week.
