A batmobile replica will be one of the featured lots at Mekum’s upcoming Indianapolis auction, scheduled for May 13-21.
The car replicated Batmobile from the 1989 film “Batman” and the 1992 film “Batman Returns”, directed by Tim Burton and starring Michael Keaton as the Dark Knight. This version is one of the most popular batmobile iterations, due to the design and is fairly easy to replicate.
The original movie cars used a Chevrolet Impala chassis with a fiberglass body, a combination that is completely easy to reproduce without special effects studio. However, instead of an impeller, the car’s maker used a 1976 Cadillac Eldorado as the basis for getting a 502-cubic-inch fuel-injected Cadillac V-8. Eldorado platform means this Batmobile is front-wheel drive.

The car has a state-of-the-art audio system with remotely powered canopy and arms, air suspension, a rearview camera, air conditioner and Bluetooth (which Batman did not have in 1989). According to the list it comes with a custom trailer.
Mecum has not released a pre-auction list, but we did see a replica of another Burton-era Batmobile for auction in 2021, with an estimated price almost the same as a new Honda Accord.
A new Batman movie has recently premiered with another take on Batmobile. Unlike Tim Burton’s movie, “The Batman” goes for a more realistic look, making Batman look like a crudely modified muscle car. It will be interesting to see if this new Batmobile inspires replica manufacturers like the 1989 version.
