Acura and Honda now certify used cars up to the age of 10

As many automakers struggle to get new vehicles in the lot, the price of used vehicles has skyrocketed, with some used cars being sold at a higher price than their value when renewing. And we’re not talking about rare exotics here, but a lot of mainstream vehicles.

As a result, more and more buyers are turning to old cars. In light of this, Acura and Honda have taken steps to stay away from the worries of buying an old car by expanding their respective certified pre-owned programs to cover vehicles up to the age of 10.

In the case of Acura, the automaker’s new offer is Acura Precision Used, which includes a six-month or 7,500-mile permanent warranty. Buyers also receive a 7-day / 300-mile exchange policy. This includes a complimentary oil change, 12 months or up to 12,000 miles of roadside assistance, reimbursement of trip-interrupted costs, concierge services and a three-month trial of SiriusXM.

Honda’s offer, known as the HondaTrue Used, is similar to the Acura Precision Used, although with a limited warranty of only 100 days or 5,000 miles. The Honda offer only comes with a 3-day / 300-mile exchange policy.

In each case, the program’s vehicles go through an 112-point inspection performed by a certified technician, a detailed list of which can be downloaded for viewing before visiting the dealership. The car also needs some maintenance.

According to Acura, its certified pre-owned program reached record figures in 2021, double-digit gains over the previous year. According to Automaker, Honda’s certified pre-owned program was the second most popular in the country.
